Terms of Use

Effective date: 14 September 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Flying River website at flyingriver.com and related pages, feeds, and newsletters we operate (together, the “Site”).

By visiting the Site, subscribing to The Weekly Current, or otherwise using our services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who we are

Flying River is an editorial publication. We write about hidden, delayed, and easily overlooked forces—and the choices they give us reason to make.

Questions about these Terms may be sent through our Contact page.

2. Using the Site

You may use the Site for personal, non-commercial reading and for other lawful purposes that these Terms allow.

You agree to use the Site in a way that does not:

  • break applicable law
  • interfere with the Site’s security, availability, or other people’s use of it
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data (including the administration area)
  • scrape, harvest, or bulk-download content except through ordinary browsing, RSS readers used for personal reading, or written permission from us
  • introduce malware or overload our servers
  • misrepresent your identity or affiliation when you write to us

We may suspend or limit access if we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated.

3. Intellectual property

The Site and its contents—including articles, headlines, photographs, graphics, logos, audio, video, the “Flying River” name and wordmark, and the selection and arrangement of materials—are owned by Flying River or licensed from others, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws.

Except as described below, you may not copy, reproduce, republish, upload, post, transmit, or distribute Site content without our prior written permission.

4. Sharing, quoting, and reuse

You may:

  • link to any public page on the Site, including with ordinary social-sharing tools
  • quote short excerpts in criticism, commentary, news reporting, scholarship, or teaching, with clear attribution to Flying River and a link to the original article where practical
  • subscribe to our RSS feeds for personal reading

You may not, without permission:

  • republish a full article, photograph, or other work
  • use our content in advertising, product packaging, or training data for commercial models
  • remove credit, captions, or copyright notices
  • frame the Site or present our pages as your own

Requests to syndicate, translate, or otherwise reuse material may be sent through Contact.

5. Editorial content

Articles, essays, captions, the Evidence Lens, and related materials are journalism and commentary. They are not professional advice—legal, medical, financial, engineering, or otherwise—and they are not a substitute for primary scientific literature, professional consultation, or official guidance.

Evidence assessments on the Site are editorial. They describe how we read the available public evidence; they are not probability scores, certifications, or guarantees.

We aim to be careful and to distinguish what is established from what remains uncertain. We do not warrant that every article is complete, current, or free of error. If you rely on something you read here, you do so at your own judgment.

6. Newsletter and messages you send us

If you subscribe to The Weekly Current, you ask us to send you email. You may unsubscribe by writing to us or by using any unsubscribe method we provide.

If you send a contact message, comment, or other material, you grant Flying River a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that material for the purpose of reading it, responding, and operating the publication. You confirm that you have the right to send it and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

Do not send confidential information through the public contact form.

Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy policy.

7. Third-party sites and tools

The Site may link to other websites, publications, tools, or services we do not control. Those links are for convenience and context. We are not responsible for third-party content, policies, or practices. Your use of third-party sites is between you and them.

Share buttons that open Facebook, X, LinkedIn, or your email application are provided as a convenience; those services have their own terms.

8. Availability

We work to keep the Site available and to correct problems when we learn of them. We do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free software, or that every page will remain at the same address forever.

We may change, archive, or withdraw content, features, or the Site as a whole.

9. Disclaimers

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, Flying River disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Site will be secure, that defects will be corrected, or that servers or transmissions will be free of viruses or other harmful components.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Flying River and its editors, authors, contributors, and operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Site will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US $100), except where a limitation of this kind is not allowed.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limits. In those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Flying River and its editors, authors, contributors, and operators from claims, damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees arising out of your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of someone else’s rights.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If a change is material, we will try to provide a reasonable notice on the Site.

13. General

These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Flying River concerning the Site. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a reorganization or transfer of the publication.

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator of flyingriver.com, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer-protection rules of your place of residence apply.
